Family Bushcraft Day

This one-day practical bushcraft and nature connection workshop is aimed at families who would like to learn basic skills to enjoy the outdoors. In this workshop you will learn to:
set up a simple shelter for cooking over an open fire
chop wood and prepare kindling using axe and hatchet
light a fire using different fire lighting techniques
cook outdoors over a fire
use simple wood carving techniques with a knife with emphasis on safety with children
play nature connection games with children
You will also experience family-orientated practical nature connection activities in a woodland setting. The day will include a talk about nature connection and its importance for the physical development and mental wellbeing of children and adults with time for discussion and questions. The workshop includes a list of resources.
The workshop will start at 10:00 and will finish at 16:00

Spoon Carving Workshop
Saturday 23rd May 2020, Cambridge, UK
This one day workshop is suitable for both beginners and those who have carved before and would like to improve their skills.
The workshop participants will learn about:
the structure of wood and woods suitable for carving spoons
tools for spoon carving: the carving axe, the carving knife and the spoon knife
safe working with basic green woodworking tools
sharpening the carving knife and carving axe
preparing wood for carving from splitting a log to shaping it into a spoon
finishing and looking after wooden spoons
By the end of the workshop you should feel confident to be able to continue to use your new skills at home on your own.
Venue: grounds of Cambridge Steiner School, Fulbourn (CB21 5JD)
The workshop is limited to 8 participants. Adults only, or over 13 when accompanied by a paying adult.
